Name

Papyrus 45 (Pap. G. 31974), P45

Date

2nd / 3rd Century CE. The Alands date it to 3rd century CE.

Provenance

Perhaps in the Fayum or ancient Aphroditopolis (modern Aftih).

Size

About 25.4 cm. x 20.3 cm. There is one column and about 39 lines per page. Click here for the image (Vienna fragment).

The total number of leaves are 30.

Contents

It contains parts of the Four Gospels and Acts.

Textual Character

The character of the text of P45 varies with each book. Such a small portion of Matthew is preserved that it is impossible to determine the character of the text. In Mark, the text is Caesarean, whereas in Luke and John it seems to stand nearly midway between the Alexandrian ("Neutral") and Western types. In Acts, the text is of the type represented by the so-called Alexandrian uncials ( A B C).

Writing

The words are written continuously without separation. Accents are absent and rough breathing is occasionally used.

Location

Chester Beatty Collection, Dublin, Ireland.
