Papyrus 49 (P. 415), P49

Date

3rd Century CE.

Provenance

It was purchased for Yale University in Cairo. Before Cairo its provenance is unknown.

Size

The original size may have been around 18 cm. x 25 cm. Bartoletti pointed out the similarities between the script of P65 and P49. It seems that these two manuscripts may be from the same codex.

Contents

Ephesians 4:16-29; 4:31-5:13.

Textual Character

According to Metzger, this papyrus has Alexandrian text type. The Alands call this manuscript "at least normal".

Hatch and Welles identify this manuscript as Alexandrian, having greatest affinity with B, then A, then P46 and .

Writing

It is written in a documentary hand.
